Product Overview
The MD-1Ā® Kids Gas Mask is one of the only reusable, professional-grade CBRN full-face respirators specifically engineered for children. It is built to the same protective principles as adult gas masks, while being scaled for reduced weight, optimized airflow, and improved comfort for pediatric users.
Unlike disposable hoods or single-use escape masks, the MD-1Ā® uses standard 40 mm NATO threaded filters, allowing families and preparedness planners to maintain a single unified filter system across adult and child masks. A detachable filter hose further reduces facial weight by allowing the filter to be carried on the body rather than directly on the mask.
When paired with appropriate filters, the MD-1Ā® is designed for protection against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear airborne hazards, provided oxygen levels are adequate.
Built for Pediatric Emergency Protection
-
Child-specific airflow and geometry
Designed to reduce breathing resistance and fatigue compared to adult masks. -
Detachable filter hose system
Allows the filter to be worn in a pouch, minimizing weight on a childās face and neck. -
Panoramic polycarbonate visor
Provides wide situational awareness with greater than 70% field of view. -
Oro-nasal inner mask
Reduces fogging and limits COā buildup during extended wear. -
Articulating 5-point mesh head harness
Distributes pressure evenly for a secure, comfortable fit across a range of head sizes. -
40 mm NATO filter compatibility
Works with the same filters used by adult MIRA Safety gas masks. -
PAPR compatible
Can be paired with powered air-purifying respirators to reduce breathing effort and improve endurance.

Important Safety Notes
ā ļø Breathing Capability Requirement
Children must be able to inflate a standard balloon using their own lung power before using any negative-pressure gas mask.
ā ļø PAPR Strongly Recommended
Even if the balloon test is passed, a PAPR is strongly recommended to reduce breathing effort and fatigue.
ā ļø Oxygen Requirement
The MD-1Ā® must only be used in environments containing at least 19.5% oxygen.
ā ļø Supervision Required
Children must always be supervised while wearing respiratory protection.
